32-Year-Old Independent Modern Woman Draws Comics On Her Observations About Society (30 New Pics) Interview With Artist
1.9Mviews
Content by women that’s meant to empower other women - now that’s what I like to see. Lainey Molnar is a talented artist who creates relatable comics about self-acceptance, motherhood, refusing to adhere to social stereotypes, and freedom of choice. These clever and very current comics touch on everyday situations that even men might resonate with.
In the images below you’ll find some of Lainey’s most recent work. If you’d like to see more, check out our previous post about her.

Condoms ARE uncomfortable! I imagine they don't feel too comfortable for a woman either. [Start Dodgy infomercial voice now] That's why you need... LUBE. Simply place a little inside the condom for more comfortability for YOU, and plenty on the outside for your partner. Don't forget to trim your pubes to avoid 'snagging'. LUBE! So from us here at LUBE, we say to you: Don't be a prick, put a condom on your d**k. But make sure you remember, to add some lube your member.
“I have a miles and miles-long 'Illustration Ideas' list on my phone, I sometimes literally wake up in the middle of the night to write down new ones and I grab my phone to make notes at any point when I see something inspiring,” the artist told Fashion Life about her creative process. “When I sit down to draw I just go through the list and see what I resonate with at that moment. I draw digitally on an iPad and sometimes I just binge-watch tv shows at the same time, but usually, I like to create an ambiance, like candles, incense, and good music, because I believe the vibes and emotions also go into every artwork.”
I have a PhD, work full time at a university as as scholar and project manager and also work in a café/bar on weekends (just because I enjoy the company and change of scenery; scholars can be really dull). It*s really amusing how SOME people treat me differently, depending on the context. Helps determine who is cool and who is not. Moral? Always treat others with respect
When asked whether she has any personal favorites out of her illustrations, Lainey said it’s the one where she compares “someone with physical health struggles” and “someone with mental health struggles”: “It's this illustration because it is extremely personal. I struggled with my mental health for 18 years of my life and I know how hard it is to live with invisible illnesses people around us can just shrug off. I usually process female empowerment topics in either a straightforward or funny way, but at the end of the day we are all simply human beings and I find it crucial to address stigmatized topics because it gives so many of us relief to know that we are not alone.”
Talking about “creative block,” Lainey is happy to have not had experienced it too much before: “If something, I have too much to say. In an ideal world, a lot of what I'm communicating would be obvious, but as we're not there yet, I don't mind processing the same pain points over and over again via a visual medium, because the feedback is overwhelmingly positive and it's not something one sees on social media a lot so that's definitely an endless source of motivation.”
Lainey says she is inspired by artists like Adam Ellis, Tiny Moron, and Wowocomics: “They all have very different styles and a very different sense of humor, but I think it always comes down to personality that shines through the art, so there is space for all unique creators to show how they perceive the world. I don't think it's about being great with technical details like anatomy skills or shading, but it's the vision and purpose that matters.”
As for her future endeavors, Lainey shared: “I just started working on the biggest project of my career and that is writing and illustrating a book. I'm a huge bookworm and I worked in publishing and was a blogger for more than half a decade—hence why my captions are also as important as the illustration itself—so I really hope that I can create something magical that will help women be happier and more liberated from societal expectations.”
The very definition of natural is 'existing in or derived from nature'. Your body is natural until you have an unnatural change. Pregnancy is one of the most natural things there is!
I needed this. I’m short and flat and small for my age. When someone says they’re jealous I always think they are joking.
agreed, i'm average and short, can't find any nice clothes to fit my B cups and big af ass.
And both require a lot of hard work, practicing, and other words that I'm not smart enough to know. (I used to be a ballet dancer and Im assuming about the other one...)
I can confirm. After having spent 35 years of insecurity over different aspects of my body, now that I am pregnant and my body is growing another human being, I'm astonished and very very satisfied with my body even though it has changed enormously.
they are not flaws, they are unlocked character skins, making you a unique player.
... But I don't see any flaws there? Or in any of the other images, for that matter.
the one on the far left looks very pretty, love the freckles
I think we often only really look at our own and think they are far bigger and more noticeable than they really are..
Yes! Remember this always and the world would've such a better place for us women.
Love this!!!! I once heard the quote “there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t support other women”, I think that’s kinda aggressive as most people are taught to hate “femininity” and “women” but it created another thought “there’s a special place in heaven for women who celebrate each other.”
Yes. But after all the body positivity, are we now saying they're flaws after all?
"Flaws". Why are we defining them as FLAWS in the first place? ❤️
Yes I agree. However. Can just once one woman be really short please? Sorry just saying I know dumb to say but. Idk ice been waiting for yrs for shorties representative in stuff lol?
We'll, since there is nothing to compare the women to except each other, theoretically they could all be between 5' - 5'3". ;-}
Load More Replies...This is sort of antithetical to your message in every other brilliant depiction. Women don't have flaws.

I really love this - it makes me feel more comfortable with my body and my lifestyle
These are awesome
Half of me loves the inclusive body positivity. The other half notices this is a much more positive yuppie-dom than I grew up with, but nobody is broke, rural, or old.
....How can you tell nobody is broke or rural? Is it because of what they're wearing? You can find cheap and stylish clothes and people who live in rural areas can wear nice clothes....
Sane, grown people living real rural lifestyles are not tromping around the woods in Gucci. And, some of us have to prioritize feeding our kids over finding "cheap & stylish" clothes. And, many of us don't even care to prioritize clothes.
Aaand a lot of these women don't wear fancy clothing, so what's the problem?
Yeah it would be nice to see more old ladies
I'm here!
Me, too. But, we aren't in the pictures. 😉
I'm mostly thrilled by this post-- and this artist in general-- but I do feel that disabled bodies lack representation
Not all disabilities (physical or mental) are visible. 👍
i didnt realize this...good point
I guess that one girl appearing in most of her strips is a comic version of herself, so I wouldn't expect the main protagonist to be old.
Thats a factor of the drawing style, too.
Thrift stores are a thing in almost every community.
Wow, find what is wrong in your eyes and beat her up. Suggestion, why don't you draw some with exactly that. These were certainly very inclusive...could they be more, sure...but why is that a reason to criticize?
In doing my little part to adress societies double standards, I did NOT raise my sons to see femails as trophies or conquest. I know this will sound old fashioned, but I have encouraged them to wait for marriage. I know that isn't going to happen, but it's a good baseline. As for my daughter. At 9 years old she is one belt away from her Black Belt in TKD, and I have been teaching her hand to hand and take down for self defense. I also take time to explain the physical advantages women have in situations. She also does jazz and tap dance. In short I won't have to be one of those dads who threatens her dates. We are raising a strong and confident young woman.
Have you considered treating your children the same regardless of gender?
It's okay to acknowledge a childs gender and share knowledge on challenges unique to each.
The gender treatment is augmented to combat the unique stereotypes and societal pressures each gender encounters more regularly. The forms of societal dialogue are deeply rooted and insidious.
very beautiful to read <3
Double standards are on both sides of the gender fence. The fact you ignored one side completely (and spelled female the way you did) shows you're just trying to fn male shame for "brownie points" and are ignorant to the bullsh*t from the other side. Good job making sure the males will be victims of abusive, manipulative females.
If you want to give your sons a course in self-defense against women, The Rational Male book series is a great place to start. It didn't "save my life" like it has for so many others..the hospital staff did that, fortunately, after my failed, abusive marriage led me to attempt suicide. But the author has given me a fresh perspective, and the confidence to start seeking a relationship again after a decade committed to remaining a bachelor forever. Relationships are brutal for men these days, fraught with hidden landmines, and unless you arm your sons against the harsh realities of modern feminism you are setting them up for failure.
Wow, really...I feel for you...but to say this abt all women is BS. Feminism does not equal abuse of men. You are utterly ignorant...pls get some counseling and do not get into a relationship yet.
Feminism is equal to abuse of men. From labeling masculine activities/proclivities as "toxic" simply because they don't directly and immediately benefit women, to the unconscionable contract that is modern-day marriage, to indoctrinating kids into the "blank-slate" fallacy which tells them that men and women are the same and the cultural influence of "the patriarchy!" is what keeps women from being successful in male-dominated fields like e-sports and military service. Men and women are different, and any regime that indicrinates young men into being ashamed of their masculinity because it's not feminine enough is an abusive regime. That's feminism. I'm not saying all women are evil. I never even suggested or alluded to that. I absolutely don't believe it. I do believe that young men ought to be taught to defend themselves against abusive women, just as young women ought to be taught to defend themselves against abusive men. And those are two different training courses entirely.
They left out one...... Emotional/psychological abuse vs. Physical Abuse....... Both bad. Can't see the scars on one.
Nobody in this series has body hair. Even the one specifically regarding a 'natural body'. They are all totally shaved. ..Wild pubes, leg & armpit hairs are WOMAN. Also, petite & slim people have body image and societal pressure issues too. Ya know how many times in my life people have gone out of their way to say things like, 'Eat a burger or something.' It's important to note that screens, especially before bed, a bad sleep routine, a lack of physical movement & sunshine, and a bad diet contribute significantly to poor mental and physical health.
After my son was born, I had so many people ask me how I lost the baby weight so quickly. It was actually Grave's disease--an autoimmune disorder that attacks the thyroid and one symptom is unintended weight loss. I went from 130lbs pre-pregnancy (healthy) to 150lbs during pregnancy (also healthy) to 110lbs about 8 weeks post pregnancy (very unhealthy). It was awful.
I can’t give you enough upvotes
I, also, noticed the lack of hair. I'm a little hairy. Some of my girl friends have pointed this out over the years. I was always self-conscious about it. "Your arms are so hairy! Why don't you shave them?" ... "Because I dont want to! Back off, b*tch!"
Shaved arms are the worst. My boyfriend in high school shaved his arms for swim, and it was like holding hands with a cactus.
true,as if its a privilege to be slim, and how dare you complain about anything to do with your body pffft i was concerned about a big spare tyre i acquired, after being slim for years,as its a symptom of various illnesses, and my heavier friends were pretty harsh with me.sorry,i was worried about my health
Are the screens, bad sleep routine, lack of movement, and lack of sunshine contributers to poor mental health or are they a symptom of poor mental health? A little judgemental don't you think? I guess that's the whole point this lady is trying to make.
No. They are not. Stfu with that ignorant bs. Good God, one minute women are proud to be different, then they're wanting to be exactly the same as a guy (even though they claim every guy is evil). Women just like to bîtch about anything and everything.
🤍🤎🖤💛🤍🤎🖤💛 everyone is beautiful!
i wanted to keep scolling to see more pics lol. love it.
i love this post because it really targeted the issues that we are facing we need to except we were all made human and nothing we do makes us less human we all need to join together and say that we are all human and we all should be treated the same no matter who we are and how we act
WHO we are shouldn't have an affect on how we are treated BUT how we ACT will always have an affect on how we are treated. If someone acts like an A-Hole, that is how they're going to be treated.
I really loved this post. So many feelings that I've had....it's made me feel a tiny bit more positive this evening
Pft anyone who disagreeed that these are "so awesome" and doesn't share the "You go, girl!" attitude got voted down to oblivion.
To be fair, there were several, outright unkind comments, bordering on cruel. It's not hurting anyone to have a post about positivity and inclusivity.
I completely support inclusivity and am against people being body shamed. But I do believe that body shaming needs to be replaced by a realistic view of how much one ( man or woman ) should weigh and advise him/her of the best approach to correct it. You can't have a person (aprt from some professional heavyweight lifters) that is 130 kilos and beating themselves in the chest that they are gorgeous and that there is nothing wrong with them. I am sure that having 35% body fat (or more) is worriesome? You may feel good now, but as you age a myriad of diseases and disabilities can become onset necause of a runaway appetite. EDIT: I have many friends (mostly female) who are very overweight for one reason or another.
Pretending that you care about someones health as an excuse to point out FAT isnt as helpful as you want to believe.
Shame can be a great motivator to do better. "Fat shaming" can be a very positive thing overall, when it comes from a place of love (sincerely wanting the best for the other, and willing to sacrifice for it.) FAT is not healthy, over a certain amount...15% or so? Pointing out where a friend needs to get their life under control is helping them out, especially if one is committed to helping out. "Hey, bruh, you're overweight and out of shape, but I know you can do better. Come hit the gym with me. You will looked better, feel better, live longer, and have a better life. Your spouse will thank you for it, and your future self will, too."
People that weigh 130 kilos aren't beating themselves on the chest claiming that they're perfect and beautiful. They know they're unhealthy. People (especially people that aren't nutritionists or professional trainers) constantly telling them that they're unhealthy or gross isn't helping or solving anything. Many of these people have deeper issues with food that simply telling them that they're unhealthy is most definitely not going to help and in fact often just makes it worse.
A lot of these were far from positive

Leftist positivity is mandatory on Fashion Life
The illustrations are amazing and they are real life facts about society. I would love to have these in a book and show my girls when they get older
Anyone remember when this was “independent 31-year old modern woman draws comics”?
I love everything about this. The positivity, the self-love, the art style, and the outfits. Like hello, where can I get them?
She could sell most of the outfits she drew!
This is definitely one of the least patronizing/over simplifying “woman draws it as it is” posts.
"Oh my gosh why are you so fa-" NOBODY CARREEESSSSS, NOBODYYY CARRRESSS
Im gonna bookmark this, and come back whenever I don't have any confidence on myself
I love the artist's style.
I loved them so much. They are inclusive with such an important message to spread. I would love to see more from this artist.
I...love all of these so much lol
These are absolutely fantastic.
ahhhhhh I LOVE the outfits!
good job
WHERE do I get MORE of this?!
For all those posts criticizing her for not including this, that, or the other: How about you make your own...why was it her responsibility to address any and everything? I think this was a totally awesome beginning...
Abuse occurs from all angles. It's not just male on female, as women so wrongly proclaim (which is just a way to deflect from their own disgusting behaviors and attitudes). Abuse from a female is absolutely real, and happens a lot more than people think. I'd say they're actually more mentally abusive than males are overall. These kinds of cartoons ignore facts like that while at the same time try to claim they're about some kind of "equality" thing. Nope. It's about being the same way you claim men are, the actions of which you claim to hate. It's called hypocrisy and double standards.
i really love this. I can relate to most of them.
What a lot of people don't understand is many of these same issues affect straight men as well. Body image, marriage, kids, etc... We all feel the same pain.
Love this!
I love her art style
Thank you for this!
I love all of these 💙
these are beautiful and poignant
Loved the article. Shame there are so many know it alls in the comments telling people what's 'right and wrong' like they are bloody experts. People need to wind their necks in and let people just be.
I love how positive and supportive these comics are! As someone who is working on self-confidence and loving myself, seeing stuff like this helps
I love these <3
these are great. very adept
Fantastic artwork.
These are one of the better series on here. Nice job!
"I will not take comfort in other womens flaws"! Love this!!!
Still waiting for that person who complains that the artist is putting too much emphasis on feminism and femininity. LOVE the artwork, and the messages behind them! Never be afraid to be yourself.
I love the messages, and I love her artwork.
Love all of these!
Wow... this person is an amazing artist!!!
I need to see this.. thanks Love!!!
Thanks for the one including the Angel Mom. We need to normalize not waiting until someone becomes one to tell them if our loss
I love this so much!! Especially seeing women drawn with overhanging bellies like mine - you hardly ever see them depicted accurately!
So sexism is alive and well then.
Yeah it is. Have you been living under a rock?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS:)!!! It was so very healing to watch. We are so subconsciously influenced and to see it all was really healing. I would love to see one from a mans perspective too. It would probably be healing for men to age the many mixed messages they get too:) It would be great for men to see this and woman to she the men ones:) Thank you soooooo much for making this:)!
I love this artist's style!
Oh good Lord. What a bunch of ridiculous, sexist drivel.
Honestly. I'm tired if people whining about literally everything. This kind of crap holds no appeal to me at all. Wah wah wah

Then why'd you read it?
I know right just leave if you don’t like it, I do that all the time. I don’t take the time to comment on it just to be a b***h. Like, why?

Oh brother, great, another "look at me and my creations" woman publishing what no one gives a f**k about. Wohhooo!!
Some women have to look at this to not feel like complete sh*t about themselves, myself included because men like you in this world (I'm assuming you're a man because most women can see why this means something) make us feel like we are crap for existing. I came out of this feeling great about myself, and then I read this comment. Thank you so much. Oh, and I do give a f**k. Sorry to ruin your little put-down party.
Preach, Genevieve. This a-hole shouldn't be allowed on bp.
Pop off queen let's ban this a**hole

Most of these were incredibly stupid.

Lots of own-back taps here. Sure, if you weigh 120 kilos and think you are healthy, go for it. No body shaming here, common sense. The clothes and skin issues are a separate thing. Very feminist post, which is not inherently bad, but a lot of these were cringy.

Wow... That was a lot of meaningless platitudes.
I really love this - it makes me feel more comfortable with my body and my lifestyle
